Cable TV

Will I have to do anything in June 2009 when all over the air broadcasts change to digital?

The federal government is requiring that on June 12, 2009, TV stations cease broadcasting in analog and switch to all-digital signals. Analog TV sets not connected to cable, satellite, or other pay-TV service (in other words, TVs that use an antenna or rabbit ears for over-the-air TV) will need a digital converter box after June 12, 2009. Analog-only TVs connected to a cable television service (such as Ygnition's) will continue to work after the transition and will not need a converter box. This will not affect gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players and similar products. The federal government is offering discount coupons for viewers who need to purchase converter boxes for analog TV sets. More information on the DTV transition is available at www.DTV.gov. For discount coupons, visit www.dtv2009.gov or call 1-888-388-2009.

How does Ygnition's Cable TV service work?

Ygnition has partnered with Dish Networks to provide you with the best digital packages and service available for your Community.

Where can I find a channel line-up?

Often the leasing office for your Community will have channel line-up cards available. Alternately, you can view our channel lineup, our online guide, TVGuide and online at TVGuide.com and Yahoo TV.

Do I need a Digital receiver for every TV?

No. Any TV that does not have a Digital receiver will receive the Premium Cable TV service at no extra cost. However, in order to receive the complete digital package on all of your TV sets you would need a Digital receiver on each TV.

Will Ygnition install an additional cable outlet?

No. Typically this is considered a construction item and since Ygnition does not own the Community we cannot make changes to your unit. This type of installation could affect your security deposit.

Do I have to be home for the installation?

No. You can leave a signed permission to enter form at your leasing office. This allows our Field Technician to complete the job in your absence. That way your service will be installed and ready for you when you get home. We do require that customers be home for DVR or HDTV installations. Please be aware that permission to enter is only available if you live in an apartment and at your leasing office's discretion. Residents in condominium or town-home units will not be able to leave permission to enter.

Why is my game Blacked Out?

In the world of sports broadcasting, situations may arise where providers are not permitted to broadcast games in certain parts of the country resulting in blackouts. These blackouts are designed to:

  • Protect the individual team territories and rights
  • Protect the television rights holders in the competing teams’ home markets.

Please Note: Ygnition does not have control over blackout restrictions.

What are Alternate Sports Channels?

In many areas, the regional sports network (such as Fox Sports or Sunshine Sports) is the broadcast outlet for multiple sports teams. Often, more than one of the teams are playing at the same time. The regional sports network determines which game will be broadcast on the “primary feed” and which games will be broadcast on an “alternate feed.” There are seven alternate feeds to choose from as a digital subscriber.  If you are a sports fan be sure to sign up for America’s Top 200 or higher and receive all of the alternate sports feeds for your area at no additional cost.

Where can I find a listing of the games that will appear on an alternate channel in my area?

You can find a listing of the games that will appear on an alternate channel in your area here

What are Parental Controls?

Parental Controls allow parents to apply password protected locks on programming based on rating, or on a channel-by-channel basis. Any programming recorded or live, which has not been approved requires a pass-code. (See: How do I set up Parental Controls)

Do I have to plug my Digital receiver into a phone line?

No. Your service will work with out a phone line plugged into your Digital receiver. However, if you do have your Digital receiver plugged into a phone line you will be able to order Pay-Per-View events with your remote control.

How do I order a Pay-Per-View Event?

In order for you to receive a Pay-Per-View event you must subscribe to any digital TV package.

If your Digital receiver is hooked up to a home phone line (land line), you will be able to order a Pay-Per-View event via the remote.

If you do not have a home phone line plugged into your digital receiver or you are having problems ordering please Click to Chat or call us at (866) 876-3278 to speak with a Customer Care Representative for assistance.

Does Ygnition support Cable TV cards?

No. At this time Ygnition does not support Cable TV cards. Since Ygnition’s television service is a satellite based service, Cable TV cards are not available.

What is a DVR?

A Digital Video Recorder or DVR is a Digital receiver that allows you to record your favorite TV shows, sports and movies for later viewing. Once recorded you can pause, rewind and fast forward through your recordings. You can even pause or rewind live TV. DVRs are available for any Digital subscriber.

What is a TiVo?

How can I get a DVR or TiVo?

You can add a DVR or TiVo to your service today by calling (866) 876-3278 or click on Customer Login at the top of this page to sign up online.

Can I record more than one program at a time?

Yes. All Ygnition DVR and TiVo units come with dual tuners. This means you can record up to two shows at the same time.

How many hours of programming can I record with my DVR or TiVo?

The recording capacity can very slightly between the different types of DVRs.

  • TiVo can hold up to 80 hours of programming in standard definition
  • The Digital DVR can hold up to 100 hours of programming in standard definition.
  • The HD/DVR can hold up to 30hrs of HD programming or up to 200 hours of programming in standard definition.
Can I expand the recording capacity of my DVR or TiVo?

Yes. TiVo allows you to increase your recording capacity by choosing one of four video recording qualities:

  • Best – up to 23 hours. Suggested for sports and action movies
  • High – up to 37 hours. Suggested for drama and films
  • Medium – up to 48 hours. Suggested for daytime talk shows and animation
  • Basic – up to 80hours. Suggested for news

Ygnition’s digital DVR’s do not have the ability to expand the recording capacity.

Is there a limit to the number of recordings I can schedule for the future?

No. There is no limit to the amount of recording you can schedule for the future but keep in mind that once the recording space is filled up, programs will have to be deleted in order to make room for further recording.

Can I record HDTV programs with my DVR or TiVo?

A standard Digital DVR or TiVo cannot record HDTV programs. However, we do carry HD/DVRs that will record HDTV programs. Subscription to one of our HD packages is required. HD service is not available at all communities.

Can I transfer recorded programs from my DVR or TiVo to my computer?

Yes. With the TiVo service and associated software that you can download from tivo.com, you may transfer your recorded programs from your TiVo unit to your networked computer. At this time, programs cannot be transfered from an Ygnition DVR to your computer.

How do I schedule a recording?

To schedule a recording with your Ygnition DVR take the following steps:

  • Press Guide to open the Program Guide
  • Using the arrow keys on your remote, highlight the show you wish to record in the Program Guide and press the Select/OK button on the remote.
  • The Create Timer menu will open. From here you can set up the frequency and type of the recording.
  • When all your options have been set up, click on Create Timer.
  • The DVR is now set up to begin the recording once the show comes on and you will be automatically returned to the program you had been watching.

HDTV

What is High Definition Television (HDTV)?

High Definition Television or HDTV is broadcast digitally, usually displayed in a 16:9 format (letter box) and has twice the number of lines as standard digital TV.

Is Digital cable the same as HDTV?

No. Digital cable is still broadcast in standard definition and will work on all current TVs. HDTV is broadcast in HD, requires a special digital receiver and HDTV set and has twice the lines of resolution as a standard television. You cannot watch HDTV programming on a regular TV.

Can I view all my standard definition cable channels on my HDTV?

Yes. Your HDTV will display all high definition and standard definition cable channels.

What equipment do I need to get Ygnition’s HDTV service?

If you live at a community where Ygnition provides HDTV service, all you need is an HDTV, an HD receiver and a subscription to an HD programming package.

Where can I find out if Ygnition offers HDTV service at my community?

Ygnition makes it convenient to find out about all the services offered to your Community. In the leasing office we have a binder describing all of the products and services available at your community. You can also visit the Cable TV section of ygnition.com to view the services at your Community. Finally, you can Click to Chat or call us at 866-876-3278 to speak with a customer care representative.

Is there an HDMI connection on the HDTV receiver?

Yes. Ygnition’s HDTV receivers do have HDMI connection available; however customers must provide their own HDMI cable.

Is there a digital audio connection on the HDTV receiver?

Yes. Ygnition’s HDTV receiver has a digital audio output; however customers must provide their own digital audio cable.

Do I have to plug the HD receiver into a phone line?

No, but we do recommend that you have your HD receiver plugged into a phone line to keep the programming guide up to date and to order Pay-Per-View movies and events.

Why do some programs on the HD channels have black bars on the sides of the picture?

HDTV programs are about 33% wider than standard programming. When you watch standard definition programs on an HD channel, the program does not fill up the screen completely so it displays black bars on the edges.

What is the difference between the different HD resolutions?

There are three main HD resolutions:

  • 480p – Although high quality, this format is not technically HDTV. 480p displays 480 lines of resolution which are progressively scanned.
  • 720p – This is the standard that has been adopted by ABC and FOX for their HD broadcasts. 720p has 720 lines of resolution which are progressively scanned. This has almost twice the resolution of 480p.
  • 1080i – This is the standard that has been adopted by PBS, NBC and CBS. 1080i has 1080 lines of resolution. This is the highest resolution available at this time.

Most HDTVs have the ability to display all of these resolutions.

Why can’t every channel be offered in HD?

Currently, many people do not have HDTVs and those people would not be able to view the HD programs on their regular TV sets. Because of this not all of the programming content is broadcast in HD by the networks. However, new HD channels are being added frequently. Check our HD Channel listing often for the most up to date information
